When I think of Devon I immediately think of endless coastlines, desolate moorland, beautiful quaint village, beautiful beaches and of course traditional hog roasts from our Hog Roast Yelverton. But there’s so much more to Devon than the way it looks, it’s filled with history and culture that adds so much character to the county. The history of Devon goes back to at least the Stone Age, Devon was one of the first places that people decided to settle once the ice retreated. Devon produced copper, tin and other metals from ancient times, this thrived for hundreds of years and the ‘Devon Great Consols Mine’ near Tavistock is believed to be the largest copper mine in the world.
Devon is a great place to find bustling markets, and these are a great place to find local fruit and vegetables, here at Hog Roast Yelverton we will always try to use local produce wherever we can. Walking and hiking is an idle hobby to take up whilst in Devon, with the perfect landscape for adventuring, epic coastal paths, ancient woodlands and lots of historic houses that are free to explore. If you’re looking for a more challenging routes then Devon also provides rock climbing, caving and even mines e.g. Geevor Tine Mine, Morwellham Quay, Wookey Hole and Cheddar Gorge.
